A Fresh Start, A Clear Design Approach, And One Simple Tip For The New Year
Welcome to the very first blog post for Hazel & Home Design Co., I am so glad you are here!
Whether you found this page while searching for an interior designer, browsing for inspiration, or looking for practical design advice, this space is meant to be both helpful and approachable. My goal with this blog is to share real design insight, lessons learned from working in the industry, and thoughtful ideas you can actually use in your home.
A Little About Me
I am Lindsay, the designer behind Hazel & Home Design Co. I work with homeowners, builders, and other designers on projects ranging from single room refreshes to full home renovations and new builds.
My design approach is rooted in intentionality. I focus on spaces that feel layered, timeless, and livable. I believe good design should support your everyday life, not complicate it. That means thoughtful layouts, materials that age well, and selections that feel cohesive rather than trendy for the sake of it.
Hazel & Home was created as a dedicated design studio that reflects the way I work. Calm, detail driven, and client focused.
Hazel & Home Blog
Interior design can feel overwhelming, especially at the start of a project. There is no shortage of inspiration online, but there is often very little guidance on how to turn ideas into a plan that actually works.
Here you will find:
Practical design tips you can apply immediately
Insight into the design process from a professional perspective
Before and after stories from real projects
Guidance for homeowners planning renovations or new builds
If you are planning a project this year, my hope is that this blog helps you feel more confident and informed before making decisions. On that note, let’s start with a simple design tip that can make a big difference early on.
A Simple Design Tip to Start the New Year
If you are setting design goals for the new year, here is one of the most valuable habits you can adopt early on.
Start with function before finishes.
This is one of the biggest mistakes I see homeowners make. It is easy to jump straight into tile samples, paint colors, or furniture purchases without fully understanding how the space needs to work.
Before choosing finishes, ask yourself:
How is this room used day to day?
What feels frustrating or inefficient right now?
Where do we need better storage, lighting, or flow?
When function is resolved first, every design decision that follows becomes easier. Your layout informs your lighting. Your lighting influences your finishes. Your finishes support how the room is actually used.
This approach saves time, reduces costly changes, and results in a space that feels intentional rather than pieced together.
